Being a good garden neighbor
- Only harvest from your own bed or the common areas unless invited by a fellow gardener.
- Keep weeds, especially grass, out of your beds. This creates problems for all of us and some of the beds have grass going to seed in the beds.
- Remove all ripe produce and all dead and dying plants. If not, pests can thrive and travel to other beds.
- Address any pest issues in your bed as soon as you see them. DO NOT allow your plants to sit and die due to pests. When beds have dead squash plants, squash bugs move to surrounding beds.
- We have fresh straw at the gardens so mulch, mulch, mulch.
FYI: An orange brown bug that looks like a lady bug is not; it is a squash pest and eats the leaves very quickly. The lady bug is smaller and red. The yellow fuzzy bug is also a squash pest. Both can be prevalent in our garden. Pick off and squash as you see them. If your plant is not too far gone spray with an organic bug spray. If the plant is in bad shape remove the entire plant; bag and dispose of in your trash.
